“The Holly and the Ivy” is a traditional British Christmas carol, and holly is one of the symbols that have been eventually attached to the Day celebrated as the birth of Jesus Christ.
Note: The red berries represent the blood that Jesus shed on the cross on the day he was crucified and a holly’s pointed leaves symbolize the crown of thorns placed on Jesus’ head before he died.
